What are carriers?

Carriers

When e-checking an order, a carrier (box) must also be scanned. In the order’s channel, the available carriers are specified. By scanning each box, the number of packages an order consists of is determined. A carrier has set dimensions and a set weight. By adding everything up, the final weight and dimensions of an order can be determined. This information is then used to select the right shipper. Fits through a letterbox
The dimensions of the carrier determine the dimensions of the package. These dimensions determine whether an order can fit through a letterbox. If that is the case, the shipping costs will be lower. Because it is not always possible to automatically determine for all packages in a shipment whether they can fit through a letterbox, this is asked during the e-check. The question will only be asked when relevant:

  • If the box ‘always fits through a letterbox‘ has been checked for the carrier of all packages, the question will not be asked. The order can then be marked as letterbox mail if all products fit through a letterbox according to their (shipping) dimensions.
  • If the box ‘never fits through a letterbox‘ has been checked for the carrier of at least one package, the question will not be asked. The order can never be marked as letterbox mail because one of the carriers will not fit through a letterbox.
  • If a product will not fit through a letterbox based on its dimensions, the question will not be asked. The order can never be marked as letterbox mail because one of the products will not fit through a letterbox.

For a channel, a rule can also be set which states that if an order consists of only one product (S order) and said product can fit through a letterbox, a carrier that will also fit through a letterbox must be chosen. This allows you to make optimal use of the lower shipping costs for letterbox mail.

Pallets
A pallet is a special type of carrier that can also be scanned during the e-check. Instead of products, a pallet is used to store other carriers. This allows you to track what products are packed in which box and what boxes are stored on which pallet. Whether an order includes pallet carriers will also affect the choice of shipper.
