What is pick-to-light?
Pick-to-light is a system in which pick locations are equipped with electronic displays. This system allows warehouse staff to pick orders with great efficiency. A burning light on the display indicates the pick locations that an order picker has to visit. A number on the display indicates the number of items to pick at each location. This visual information all but eliminates errors while picking orders.
Besides orders that can be picked entirely in the pick-to-light zone, there may also be orders that cannot be picked entirely in the pick-to-light zone, e.g. because not all products in the order are present in the pick-to-light system. That will result in a combination of order lines that are and are not present in the system. Some of the products in question are in bulk storage in the warehouse. With Monta’s WMS, it is possible to use relay picking to first pick any items in the order that are stored in the pick-to-light system and then complete the order in the rest of the warehouse.

You can use the pick-to-light heat map in your personal MontaPortal to optimise the organisation of your warehouse. The heat map uses different colours to show you at a glance how often your staff pick items from specific areas in the warehouse. Of course, it is best to place popular product categories close together. The heat map gives you the insight you need to do that.
